I struggle with it being just pharma and doctors

both were feeding a demand. Yes, there were people that got hooked after injuries and such, but many if not most are just drug addicts who moved from coke or meth or something else to pills. The pain clinics that fed them were pill mills and the "doctors" that worked there were drug dealers. Equating real doctors with the issue is ignoring reality and trying to avoid blaming people for their own actions or making excuses to make them victims.

Should the mfgs have been aware that the numbers were too high to be real, yes probably, but ignoring the demand side that drove this and trying to make this about greedy doctors and corporations killing innocent people is a lie at best.
